Q: Where is the oil filter located on a 2002 Saturn SL2?
Im trying to change the oil in my 2002 Saturn SL2 and can't seem to find the oil filter. Where is it located? thanks for the help!
A: If I'm thinking of the right engine it is probably the horizontally mounted filter. Pop the hood and you should be able to find it.
Q: what is the diff between normal and performance in a saturn sl2?
i have a 1995 saturn sl2 its my first car and beside transmition the is a switch that says norm and perf what is the diff its on norm right know what would i use performance for?
A: keep it on norm it gives you the best millage switching it to performance changes your transmission shift points. Good for towing which most people don't do with a Saturn.
Q: How do I clean the fuel injectors on my '92 Saturn SL2?
I've got a '92 Saturn SL2 that has over 200k on it. It runs for a little while and then stalls. if you start it again, it will run for a sec and then stall again. I have been told it might be the fuel filter (I have one, but haven't got it put in yet) or possibly the fuel injectors need to be cleaned. How do i clean them? Is there a fuel additive that I pour in with my gas, or do I physically pull them out and clean them. If so, where do I get to them, and what do I use to clean them? Thanks.
A: i own a repair shop and id replace the filter first on it because that's usually the cause of this happening, and if that don't help it check the fuel pump relay on it ,and on the injectors don't let know one pressure clean the,it messes them up ,because it makes them weak and they leak after, just run some good cleaner through the tank and that will be good enough to clean them ,good luck with it hope this helps.
Q: What can I do to upgrade my 99 saturn sl2?
I have a 99 Saturn sl2 and i need to make it faster... What is a good starting point in order to get more hp?? and where can I find these parts??!! Any help would be appreciated!!!
A: Not to be funny, but the best start is to get another car.
GM/Saturn didn't get into the tuner game until the mid 2000's. So there aren't many aftermarket items available for Saturns.
You could try to find a stock K&N replacement filter. You could also try to find a cold air intake that is close and have a shop modify it to fit your Saturn. But short of starting out with something Japanese or a few years newer, there's not much out there that can help you.

Q: What the proper way to relieve fuel pressure in a 99 saturn sl2 prior to changing the fuel filter?
I have heard to remove the fuse for the fuel pump and let the car run until it dies because of lack of pressure. I have also heard that i need to release the schrader valve and let it depressurize.. I also know that the saturn fuel filter is extra expensive because it has a built in fuel pressure regulator, but i don't think that will help me in the changing process. help?
A: put on eye glasses. and use the schrader valve on top side of engine. good luck with your fuel filter.. and make sure you have the disconnect tool.. it's a a mass of lines that weave in and out of the back side of the engine.
Q: How much would it cost to buy a new engine for a 1996 Saturn SL2?
Dohc engine turns but doesn't start. The Saturn is automatic, cruise control, radio, cd player, sunroof, spoiler. The car would the first car of a graduating senior who is going to college fall of this year.
A: $1400 for a rebuilt DOHC. I would have a mechanic check out your current engine before you consider buying a new one so you can avoid wasting a bunch of money.
Q: Is a 2000 Saturn SL2 a good and what are the most common problems to go wrong with these cars?
Also what models do Saturn make they are good and do GM make these?
A: My family has had 7 Saturns. We still have 3 of them in the family. One 94 SL1 with over 400k miles on it, but it is ready to die (finally), One LS Wagon 2002? (still a decent car), and mine is a 2001 SL (manual) 138,000 miles and still doing great. Overall, the S series models are good, solid Extremely fuel efficient cars (I got 49.5 mpg on one tank of gas, most of the time I get just over 40 mpg). All of the S series Saturns with a "2" after their letter means that they have a different engine; a twin over-head cam. These engines are more powerful, but not as stable as the other engines in the S series. The "2"'s, from what I have heard, have been known to start leaking oil severely around 100k miles. Otherwise, I haven't heard any major problems with them. One Red Flag about Saturns, they have a touchy electrical system. If the Saturn is doing anything weird, like shotting up to 3,000 rpms randomly or stalling, even after warmed up, you might want to start with checking the life and power of the battery. Also, be careful about making changes to the finely tuned electrical system. My brother had a custom stereo install in his 97(?) SC, and within three months the car caught on fire, melting the plastic side panels.
All in all, a Saturn is a great economy car. I would stay away from the "2"'s and anything after 2002 Saturn lost their vision of being a "different kind of car company." The newer Saturns were built with the disposable car mentality so that you would buy more, instead of being happy with you really reliable old saturn.
I hope that help, and I hope it all makes sense. Feel free to respond.
Q: Where is the starter motor located in a 97 Saturn SL2?
My SL2 has had a weak start up since I've had it, and now it will not even make a sound when I turn the key. Lights and everthing come on. Just doesn't click or anything. So I called an auto parts store and he suggested it was the "starter motor" and that goes out on Saturns quite often, so I would like to know where the "starter motor" would be located.
Thanks.
A: The starter is located at the trans bell housing - an alloy "basket" attached to the back of the cylinder block between the engine and the transmission. The starter is a cylinder about 5" diameter and 10" long, on front wheel drive cars you can see it from under the hood.
The guy was right - starters (just like everything else on gm masterpieces) go out on saturn quite often but before replacing it you should run basic diagnostic procedures - check if there is power coming to the starter. But the first thing to do is known as a "tap test" - using a big wrench or other suitable tool tap on the starter motor - sometimes it helps. The other common thing is a blown fuse or a bad starter relay. All of these are no brain twisters, and if they represent a challenge for you consider taking the car to a shop.
Q: Where is the trunk light fuse in a 1998 Saturn SL2?
The interior trunk light in my SL2 went out a couple weeks ago and I didn't think anything about it. I just went down to the parts store and bought a new bulb for it. The problem is, I still can not get it to function, even with the new bulb. So, I believe it is the fuse. Does anyone know where the fuse for this light is located?
A: Two things to check, fuses and connection.
Fuses - first off, if you are not having other noticeable problems, then it is probably not the fuse, because according to the 2001 SL owners manual, the fuse would also include the interior dome light, power mirrors, power door locks and other thingys. But if it is the fuse, try this location...Saturns have 2 fuse boxes (1 under the hood and one in the car). The interior lights would be located in the fuse box that is in the car. That fuse box is located...well...if you were sitting in the front passenger seat, the fuse box would be right next to your left knee, just under the stereo, off to the passenger side of the center console. Once you find the fuse box, the fuse is probably labeled "BODY" and should be a Red (10 amp) fuse. If you are lucky, there might be a small white plastic tool in the fuse box that is a fuse puller...very useful.
Connection - I have a sense that this is more likely your problem. The most susceptible connection is right next to the trunk latch. If you recently stuffed too much stuff in your truck like I did moving my livelihood to and from college, you might have knocked this connection loose. Simply make sure those connectors are connected securely.
Q: Can a cd deck be installed in a 96 saturn sl2? Could BestBuys do it?
I have a 96 saturn sl2. It only has an casseste deck. I wanted to know if a cd deck can be instllaed in it and so is bestbuy a right choice to have them install it? I went on their website but they didnt have a cd deck compatabel for my car. My friend said it's best that I just go to best buy in person and find out.
A: Any place like Best Buy or Circuit City can install the new deck. Compatibility is often based on if the deck can directly plug into the console that you have right now. Of course, you're going to need a head unit, harness, mounting deck, etc, all of which are included when you go to those stores. Usually they also run deals in which they give you free speakers with the cost of a new deck, so its kinda worth it if you're hesitent about doing it yourself. (Like me). Sometimes they also run deals with free install; check the circular for the best deals.
